The OIC General Secretariat observes World Humanitarian Day on August 19th annually to honor the bravery of humanitarian workers who make sacrifices or suffer injuries in their service, as well as those who continue to save and protect lives in challenging circumstances.

This year’s commemoration highlights the pressing humanitarian challenges across the Muslim world, underscoring the need for intensified and coordinated efforts to address diverse impacts and dimensions of crises.

“The General Secretariat reaffirms its dedication to advancing and coordinating collective Islamic humanitarian initiatives rooted in Islamic principles and responsive to the OIC Charter and resolutions aimed to tackle crises, develop effective response mechanisms, and collaborate closely with Member States as well as with global and regional entities,” the OIC General Secretariat stated in a press release.

The OIC will convene on October 26, a donors’ conference for the mobilization of resources in view to assisting refugees and displaced persons in the Sahel and Lake Chad regions. It called on all international partners to join this collective effort to help improve the conditions of millions of victims of humanitarian crises in this troubled region.

The General Secretariat expressed gratitude to member states, donors, and partners for their constant and substantial contributions in mitigating the adverse effects of crises on affected members and communities hosting refugees.
