JEDDAH: The Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) has welcomed the petition filed by South Africa to the International Court of Justice (ICJ), accusing Israel, the occupying force, of carrying out genocide against the people of Palestine, the Saudi Press Agency (SPA) reported on Saturday.

The Organization of Islamic Cooperation has affirmed that all acts being committed by Israel, the occupying force, including the random attacking of the civilian population, the killing and injuring of tens of thousands of Palestinian people, predominantly children and women, their forced displacement, prevention from accessing basic necessities and humanitarian help, and the destruction of buildings, educational, health, and religious organizations, collectively constitute a crime of genocide.

The OIC has also called on the Organization of Islamic Cooperation to promptly answer and take immediate procedures to put an end to the genocide being committed by the Israeli occupation forces in the occupied Palestinian territories.

South Africa filed a case earlier at the International Court of Justice (ICJ) to hold Israel accountable for its genocidal acts in the Gaz Strip.  The International Court of Justice ICJ application linked to alleged violations by Israel of its obligations under the Genocide Convention, and stated that “Israel has involved in, is engaging in and risks further engaging in genocidal action against the people of Palestine in the Gaza Strip.”

In the application, South Africa says that Israel has been acting “with the requisite specific intent… to destroy the people of Palestine in the Gaza Strip as part of the broader Palestinian national, ethnical and racial group.”

The International Court of Justice (CJ), commonly known as the World Court, is the UN’ court for resolving conflicts between the countries.
