PARIS: Olivia Rodrigo, the renowned singer-songwriter, has openly shared her lack of enthusiasm for HBO’s highly contentious series, ‘The Idol,’ during an interview with The Guardian.

The talented artist, best known for her hit song “Vampire,” revealed that she has no inclination towards ‘The Idol,’ a series associated with The Weeknd.

“Oh no. I don’t have the desire to. I remember walking out of ‘Barbie’ and being like, ‘Wow, it’s been so long since I’ve seen a movie that focuses on a female lead in a manner that isn’t overly sexual or centered around her pain or trauma,'” Rodrigo remarked.

Criticism on ‘The Idol’ Series

Previously, the streaming platform made the decision to cancel ‘The Idol’ due to widespread criticism and controversy surrounding the show, particularly regarding its explicit content.

“The Idol was one of HBO’s most provocative original programs, and we’re pleased by the strong audience response,” noted an HBO spokesperson.

The spokesperson further elaborated, stating, “After much thought and consideration, HBO, along with the creators and producers, have chosen not to proceed with a second season. We are grateful to the creators, cast, and crew for their incredible work.”

‘The Idol’ had stirred up significant debate and had faced backlash for its content, ultimately leading to its discontinuation.
