Olympic Movement to Donate $1 Million to Turkiye, Syria

GENEVA: The International Olympic Committee (IOC), the European Olympic Committees (EOC), the Olympic Council of Asia (OCA), and the Olympic Refuge Foundation (ORF) announced on Friday to donate one million U.S. dollars to the Olympic community affected by the earthquakes in Turkiye and Syria.

According to a statement issued by the IOC, the president of the committee, Thomas Bach said that he had spoken to the NOC president of Turkiye and the NOC president of Syria and had heard from them about the impact the earthquake has had on many members of the Olympic community.

He further said that their first-response emergency assistance in Turkiye would be channeled through the Olympic Refuge Foundation and their partners on the site, adding that in Syria, they would work with international NGOs and UN agencies that were able to access the affected areas.
