ISLAMABAD: Leader of the National Conference Omar Abdullah has stated that the illegally-occupied Jammu and Kashmir is not normal, as asserted by the Modi-led Indian administration, and argued that if it were normal, elections would already have taken place in the region.

As per Kashmir Media Service, he informed the press that it cannot be denied that the ongoing deteriorating conditions in IIOJK have consistently troubled international human rights organizations.

These organizations have repeatedly raised the alarm regarding the blatant and persistent human rights violations committed with impunity by the Indian security forces occupying the region.

He questioned, “If the situation is normal, why are elections not held? What is the excuse? Only yesterday, a police officer was shot at in broad daylight in Srinagar. Now, we heard that something has happened in Pulwama. In Rajouri, an area which we had cleared of militancy, every week, an incident or encounter takes place there. If this is a normal situation, then be it.”

When asked about the internal disagreements within the People’s Alliance for Gupkar Declaration (PAGD) constituents, Abdullah clarified that he personally hasn’t made any statements against anyone. He emphasized that he has refrained from targeting any of his friends, even though they have faced criticism over the past few months.

He also acknowledged that, for the first time, he hasn’t attempted to intervene in the disagreements among his colleagues.

In an indirect allusion to PDP leaders’ recent criticisms of the National Conference during a party event, Abdullah suggested that his party could have raised various issues if they were inclined to delve into the past. —APP
