WASHINGTON: US President Joe Biden has said the “only answer” to the war between Hamas and Israel is “a two-state solution that’s real” while warned Israel that occupying the Gaza Strip would be a “big mistake”, Western media reported on Thursday.

President Biden told media persons that he had put that stance to Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu.  The US President said that he had made it clear to the Israelis that he thought the only answer here is a two-state solution to the crisis in Middle East.  Biden said, I don’t think the conflict will end until there is a two-state solution.”

The US President has long endorsed a two-state solution to the decades-long tensions between Palestinians and Israel. Earlier, in his address in Israel in October, Biden said that he supported a two-state solution in the quest of peace in the Middle East.

The development comes as the Israeli military continued its attack on the al-Shifa hospital in Gaza on Thursday. Following a days-long siege, Israeli army and tanks attacked the immense hospital complex earlier, sparking grave international concern for the thousands of critically patients, newborns and displaced people stuck inside.

Gaza’s health ministry told the media that 40 patients, including 3 babies, have passed away since Al- Shifa’s emergency generator ran out of fuel Saturday.

Clashes also broke out between pro-Palestinian protest demonstrators and police on Wednesday in front of the Democratic Party headquarters in Washington. Protest demonstrators were demanding a ceasefire and an end to Israel’s military attack in Gaza.

The United Nations said about two thirds of Gaza’s 2.3 million people have become homeless, most of the displaced people taking shelters in the south, since Israel started its bombardment in the Gaza Strip.
