BLOEMFONTEIN:  South Africa won against West Indies while Ireland defeated USA by seven wickets in the first day of the ICC U19 Men’s Cricket World Cup 2024. On the inaugural day of the ICC U19 Men’s Cricket World Cup 2024, South Africa triumphed over West Indies in a closely contested match in Potchefstroom, thanks to a stellar bowling performance by pacer Kwena Maphaka.

Despite a brilliant century by Jewel Andrew putting West Indies on the brink of victory, South Africa fought back and secured a 31-run win.

Meanwhile, in Bloemfontein, Ireland comfortably defeated USA by seven wickets, setting them off to a strong start in a group that includes recent champions India and Bangladesh.

Ireland’s bowlers, led by Olly Riley, dominated the early stages, restricting USA to just 105. In the chase, despite a shaky start, Ryan Hunter and Kian Hilton steadied Ireland, guiding them to a convincing victory in the 23rd over, with Hunter celebrating a well-deserved half-century.
