LONDON: World War II thriller Oppenheimer has won the battle against Barbie at the 77th British Academy Film Awards (Baftas) by winning seven awards.
The epic action movie about the creation of the atomic bomb was awarded as Best Film.
However, the Barbie missed in every category, with stars Margot Robbie and Ryan Gosling leaving without any award.
Cillian Murphy, who played the title character J. Robert Oppenheimer, won the Top Actor award, while Christopher Nolan took the prize for best director.
Cillian Murphy 47, is the first Irish-born actor star to grab the Leading Actor Bafta award.
During his speech, Cillian, referred to his co-stars as his Oppen-homies, saying that Oppenheimer was a very complex character to play.
“One man’s monster is another man’s hero. That’s why I love movies.”
The movie won awards for Cinematography and Editing, Original Score, while Robert Downey Jr won best Supporting Actor award.
Dark comedy Poor Things grabbed five awards including Leading Actress for Emma Stone. She lauded the cast and crew, saying she can’t imagine this film with anyone else.
