WASHINGTON: More than 20 US states have banned the popular app TikTok on government devices citing cyber security concerns.

Kentucky said that it had updated its employee handbook to ban state employees from using government devices to access Tik Tok.

On Thursday, the governors of North Carolina and Wisconsin also signed orders banning the app on official devices. New Jersey, Ohio and Arkansas also took similar steps earlier this week.

In a statement, TikTok said it was saddened that several states are jumping on the political craze to pass policies that will do nothing to advance cyber security in their states and are based on groundless tales about the app.

Most of the states so far to ban the app have Republican governors, but North Carolina, Wisconsin, and Kentucky all have Democratic governors.

Last month, US President Joe Biden inked into law a government funding bill that included a ban on government employees from using and downloading TikTok on government-owned devices.
