DUBAI: Relentless attacks against infrastructure and cold weather in Gaza are making the Palestinian territory completely uninhabitable, the United Nations human rights office warned on Friday.
Ajith Sunghay, Head of the UN Human Rights Office for the Occupied Palestinian Territory said that he fearing that many more civilians will die.
He said that the continued attacks on specially protected facilities like hospitals, will kill civilians, and there will be a further, massive impact on access to health care, security and safety in general of Palestinians.
Israel’s offensive has martyred over 26,000 Palestinians, according to Gaza health authorities, with thousands more feared buried under rubble and most of the 2.3 million people displaced, facing acute shortages of water, food, and medicine.
Israel began its offensive in the wake of an October 7 rampage by Hamas who killed 1,200 people and seized 240 hostages.
Sunghay said his office was also concerned about the impact of cold and rainy weather in Gaza.
Worrying situation in Gaza
It was completely predictable at this time of the year, and risks making an already unsanitary situation entirely uninhabitable for the people, he said.
He added that most have no blankets or warm clothes. Northern Gaza, where IDF (Israel Defense Forces) bombardment was underway, is barely accessible, even to provide basic humanitarian assistance.
