Over 3.5m Children to Be Vaccinated in Five-day Polio Vaccination in KP

PESHAWAR: The five-day polio vaccination campaign started in 12 districts of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa on Monday, wherein around 3.535 million children under five would be administered anti-polio vaccine.

According to the provincial health department, the polio drive is simultaneously being carried out in Peshawar, Swat, Nowshera, Bajaur, Hangu, Karak, Khyber, Mohmand, Kohat, Kurram, Charsadda, and Orakzai districts.

Over 13,000 teams have been formed to provide polio drops to youngsters, the most vulnerable group, while 21,000 police officers will provide security to these polio teams.

Shah Fahad, Deputy Commissioner Peshawar, officially launched the polio vaccination campaign in his office by administering polio drops to children on Monday.

He stated that the center city would be covered during the five-day campaign, and catch-up work would be completed during the following two days.

He noted that 2400 polio teams had been formed in Peshawar, which will administer polio drops to nine lac children, and around 3500 security officers have been deployed for security duty during the polio campaign.

The DC stated that to eradicate polio in the provincial capital, the health department and polio teams have been mandated to ensure the immunization of every child under the age of five. — APP
