Pak-Afghan Delegations Discuss Regional Situation

ISLAMABAD: Foreign Ministers of Pakistan and Afghanistan, in their delegation-level talks on Sunday, discussed the bilateral relations between the two nations and the regional situation. Pakistan’s Foreign Minister Bilawal Bhutto Zardari welcomed the Afghan delegation led by Acting Foreign Minister Amir Khan Muttaqi at the Foreign Office, a press release said. Both the foreign ministers led their respective delegations during the bilateral talks.

Pakistan-Afghanistan ties and regional situation

ISPR said that Army Chief Gen Syed Asim Munir met Acting Afghan Foreign Minister Amir Khan Muttaqi, at his office.  The military’s media wing said, “the Army Chief and Afghan Acting Minister discussed issues of mutual interest, including border management, regional security, and formalisation of bilateral security mechanisms for the improvement in the present security environment. The COAS stressed the need for enhanced cooperation between the two brotherly nations to effectively address the common challenges of extremism and terrorism. The COAS reiterated the need for full support and commitment from the Interim Government of Afghanistan in matters of mutual interest,” the ISPR maintained.

“Foreign Minister Muttaqi lauded Pakistan’s traditional support for the people of Afghanistan and admitted the significant role that Pakistan continues to play in facilitating development and peace in Afghanistan. Afghan Minister expressed his desire to work closely with Pakistan in order to promote regional prosperity and stability.”

“Both sides also agreed on the importance of maintaining regular contacts to strengthen bilateral relations and address issues of common concern. The COAS reaffirmed Pakistan’s commitment to a peaceful, stable and prosperous Afghanistan.”
