KARACHI: The Pakistan Navy and the People’s Liberation Army (Navy) of China concluded their bilateral exercise Sea Guardian-2023 with a closing ceremony at the Pakistan Navy Dockyard on Friday.
The exercise, held in Karachi and the North Arabian Sea, featured the participation of six Chinese Navy units, including a destroyer, frigates, submarine, oil tanker, and rescue ship, alongside a detachment of marines, read a press release of the Pakistan Navy.
SEA GUARDIAN-2023 incorporated a diverse range of operational maneuvers, covering key aspects of anti-surface, anti-air, mine warfare, and special operations in a simulated multi-threat environment, providing optimal training value.
The primary objective of the exercise was to further strengthen maritime cooperation and defense relations by facilitating the mutual exchange of maritime expertise and enhancing interoperability between the two navies.
In conjunction with the visit of Chinese PLA (Navy) ships, Rear Admiral Liang Yang, Commander of Qingdao Naval Base, visited Pakistan. Apart from attending the closing ceremony, Rear Admiral Liang Yang held discussions with Commander Coast, Commander Pakistan Fleet, and other senior Pakistan Navy officials, addressing matters related to bilateral naval collaboration and regional maritime security.

Exercise Sea Guardian-23 Mutually Beneficial
Exercise Sea Guardian-23 proved to be a mutually beneficial platform for refining the professional skills of both navies and an opportunity to glean insights from each other’s experiences. The consistent conduct of bilateral naval exercises underscores the mutual commitment to further enhance cooperation between the two naval forces.
The closing ceremony witnessed the presence of numerous officials from both the Pakistani and Chinese navies.
