Similarly, last week the price of live chicken in the twin cities was between Rs380 and Rs420 per kg while, chicken meat was available at Rs640 to Rs680 per kg in the market of both cities.

During that time, poultry eggs used to be sold at Rs280 to Rs300 per dozen in the market of both cities.

Arshad Hussain a buyer of chicken in the market, said that the increasing price of poultry chicken seems unstoppable beyond the reach of the poor and middle-class people, demanding government to take precautionary measures for controlling the skyrocketing prices of chicken.

Causes of Increase in Prices

Former chairman of PPA Khalil Sattar while speaking to APP said that the chicken feed ingredients which are being imported from other countries had increased the cost of doing business.

He maintained that due to the gap in demand and supply; the prices of poultry have been increasing continuously.

Senior Vice President of Rawalpindi Chamber of Commerce and Industry, Hamza Sarosh remarked that soybean is included in the integral ingredients of poultry feed.

He said that a number of ships carrying soybeans have been stopped at Karachi port and only one ship has been released so far, creating problems for the dealers and business community.
