ISLAMABAD: Pakistan and the United States are expected to hold the ‘Energy Security Dialogue’ next month in Islamabad.
The dialogue would render an opportunity to discuss TAPI, CASA-1000, the purchase of US LNG, and other issues, such as purchasing of Russian oil, official sources said.
The US Department of State’s Energy Resources Assistant Secretary, Geoffrey Pyatt, will be visiting Islamabad with his delegation for the talks expected on March 15.
The US has been extending monetary and technical support for hydropower and renewable energy projects with improvements in the DISCOS network.
The US government has asked to confirm if the proposed schedule for the dialogue is acceptable for the Ministry of Energy (Power Division).
The US has repeatedly raised concerns regarding the outstanding issues with regard to the five wind-power projects financed by DFC, demanding them to be taken up at the Energy Security Dialogue.
Pak-US ‘Green Alliance’ expected to be discussed during the dialogue
Both countries are also expected to discuss Pakistan-US Green Alliance during the dialogue.
The US assisted in Pakistan’s electrification more than 50 years ago, constructing hydropower plants that continue to provide reliable and efficient energy.
