KARACHI: New Zealand opener Devon Conway led the visitors’ early domination of Pakistan in the Karachi test with a knock of 122 before the Pakistani bowlers struck back in the day’s final session to limit New Zealand to 309-6 at stumps on Monday.

Salman Ali Agha led the bowling charge for Pakistan as they made an impressive comeback in the last session to help the hosts finish day one of the second Test on a high note.

After having a frustrating day before tea here at National Bank Cricket Arena (NBCA), Pakistan bowlers had something to cheer on as they bagged five wickets in quick successions.

Agha was the pick of the bowlers as he picked three wickets that, included the crucial wicket of centurion Devon Conway.

Devon Conway hit a dominating knock to guide New Zealand to 226-1 at tea.

Conway struck 120 for his fourth Test century, while batter Kane Williamson was on 29 at the other end as New Zealand progressed from 119-0 at lunch after losing Tom Latham for 71 runs.

Conway put on a solid 134 partnership with Latham after New Zealand opted to bat after winning the toss on a National Stadium pitch.

Pakistan’s pace attack looked helpless until right-arm Naseem Shah struck after lunch, trapping Tom Latham leg-before with a quick incoming delivery.

Latham scored 113 runs in the first match and hit nine boundaries in his 100-ball inning, his 24th Test half-century.

Conway was lucky to survive a chance when Saud Shakeel failed to catch a miscued drive off Hasan Ali on 89. Conway has so far hit 16 boundaries and one six in his knock.

After tea, New Zealand lost 5 wickets for 83 runs, with spinner Agha Salman taking 3, as Pakistan made their way back into the match.

New Zealand closed the day on 309/6 (90 overs)
