Staff Reports

KARACHI: Pakistan batsman Salman Ali Agha scored his first international century on day two of the test match against New Zealand on Tuesday.

First Century Salman Ali Agha

Salman Ali Agha’s crucial 103-run knock helped Pakistan score 438 runs before being bowled out. After captain Babar Azam was dismissed from the sixth test match, the 29-year-old batter showed his value.

None of the late-arriving batters he was batting with reached double figures. However, Nauman Ali (7), Muhammad Wasim Junior (2), Mir Hamza (1), and Abrar Ahmed (6 not out) saw to it that they remained on the crease for long enough to assist Salman Ali Agha in reaching the milestone.

First session

Pakistan began the second day with a score of 317-5. Tim Southee, the captain of the opposition, struck out captain Babar Azam in the first over after he failed to add a score to his 161 runs.

For the sixth wicket, Salman Ali Agha and Nauman Ali combined for a 54-run partnership. Fascinatingly, Nauman Ali played excellent defense but managed to score just seven runs off of 75 pitches.

After only scoring two runs, Muhammad Wasim Jr. was also out. Salman Ali Agha continued to play steadily and took 97 balls to reach the fifty.
