Pakistan and China Strengthen Bilateral Ties through Enhanced Cooperation in Key Sectors

ISLAMABAD: Pakistan and China have reaffirmed their commitment to bolstering cooperation in crucial areas such as the economy, information technology, agriculture, and human resource development.

The consensus emerged during a meeting between the Vice Foreign Minister of the People’s Republic of China, Mr. Sun Weidong, and President Dr. Arif Alvi at Aiwan-e-Sadr.

The visiting Chinese delegation, led by Vice Foreign Minister Sun Weidong, engaged in fruitful discussions with President Arif Alvi and Chinese Ambassador to Pakistan, Mr. Jiang Zaidong. Both nations expressed their eagerness to deepen collaboration, emphasizing mutual benefits for their friendly countries.

President Arif Alvi extended a warm welcome to the delegation, acknowledging China as a steadfast friend that consistently supported Pakistan during challenging times. He underscored the positive impact of China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) projects on Pakistan’s economic development and energy requirements. The President affirmed Pakistan’s unwavering commitment to the high-quality development of CPEC, highlighting the pivotal role of Chinese support in the upcoming phase for Pakistan’s industrial growth. He emphasized that strengthening economic ties would further solidify the bilateral relationship and appreciated China’s contribution to stabilizing Pakistan’s economy.

Expressing a keen interest in learning from China’s experiences, President Alvi mentioned key areas such as information technology, education, health, agriculture, and poverty alleviation. He articulated Pakistan’s commitment to leveraging China’s successful models for its own socio-economic development.

President Alvi reiterated the alignment of Pakistan and China on various regional and international issues. Both nations, he emphasized, cooperated at different forums. The President assured continued support for China on core issues, including the “One China” Policy, Taiwan, Hong Kong, Tibet, Xinjiang, and the South China Sea. He expressed gratitude for China’s unwavering support in Pakistan’s national development and its principled stance on the Jammu and Kashmir dispute.

Vice Foreign Minister Sun Weidong highlighted the enduring history of friendly relations between Pakistan and China, emphasizing its continuous strengthening. He commended the fruitful outcomes of CPEC and identified substantial potential for expanding cooperation across diverse sectors. Expressing gratitude, he thanked President Alvi for his visit to China in March 2020, particularly noting the support and solidarity extended during the COVID-19 pandemic.

The discussions underscored the shared commitment to fostering robust collaboration, paving the way for enhanced partnerships in key sectors between Pakistan and China.
