ISLAMABAD: Federal Minister for Information and Broadcasting, Attaullah Tarar, stated on Friday that Japan is a crucial development partner for Pakistan, with Tokyo’s support being invaluable during challenging times.
In a meeting with the Japanese Ambassador to Pakistan, Wada Mitsuhiro, Tarar highlighted the enduring friendship and cooperation between the two nations. The discussions encompassed bilateral diplomatic relations, media sector cooperation, fake news, economic initiatives, and other mutual interests.
Both countries agreed to broaden their cooperation across various sectors. The minister expressed appreciation for the Japan International Cooperation Agency’s support in Pakistan’s development.
Informing the ambassador about the government’s economic initiatives, Tarar emphasized the administration’s commitment to revitalizing the economy under Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif’s vision.
He noted that several measures have been taken to enhance the business environment and promote investment, including reforms in the Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) to expand the tax base.
The minister also mentioned efforts to facilitate private-sector business activities. He remarked that Pakistan’s economic development has accelerated since the current government took office, with international financial journals predicting further progress.
The meeting also addressed the challenges of fake news and the enhancement of media relations between the two countries. Tarar stressed the global challenge of fake news and the need for collaborative efforts to combat it.
Ambassador Mitsuhiro affirmed Japan’s interest in strengthening ties with Pakistan and acknowledged that the government’s business facilitation measures would make Pakistan a more attractive destination for Japanese investors.
