Pakistan and Russia Agree to Collaborate on Counter-Terrorism

ISLAMABAD: Pakistan and Russia have agreed to strengthen and enhance collaborative efforts to effectively combat terrorism, emphasizing the mutual benefits of such cooperation, the Foreign Office said in a press release issued here on Friday.

Earlier on Thursday, the 10th meeting of the Pakistan-Russia Joint Working Group on ‘Combating International Terrorism and Other Challenges to Security’ was held here on Thursday. The meeting was presided over by Syed Haider Shah, Additional Foreign Secretary, Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Pakistan, and Sergey Vershinin, Deputy Foreign Minister of the Russian Federation.

According to the press release, both sides discussed various challenges and forms of radicalization during the meeting. They also highlighted the menace and spread of terrorist ideologies and the misuse of information and communication technologies for terrorist acts.

Both sides showed their resilience to work together in combating the financing of terrorism and in other relevant and important areas of counter-terrorism.

Pakistan-Russia Joint Cooperation

Officials from both sides agreed to continue cooperation in the fight against terrorism. They recognized the benefits and importance of their partnership in maintaining regional and global security.

During the meeting, the global and regional terrorist threats were also discussed, with a particular focus on the situations in Afghanistan, Central and South Asia, and North Africa. The dialogue underlined the complexity of the terrorism landscape and the need for continued vigilance and surveillance.

They also outlined their corresponding national strategies and measures in fighting terrorism. Pakistan and Russia shared their experiences and best practices, highlighting the importance of national efforts in combating terrorism.

The 10th joint working group meeting was part of regular exchanges in the backdrop of Pakistan-Russia bilateral counter-terrorism cooperation. The next meeting of the Working Group will be held in 2024.
