Pakistan Announces Squad for Women’s T20 Asia Cup; Nida Dar to Lead

LAHORE: Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has announced the 15-member squad for the upcoming ACC Women’s T20 Asia Cup, scheduled to take place in Dambulla, Sri Lanka, from July 19 to 28. Nida Dar has been retained as the captain of the Pakistan Women’s Team for the tournament.

The squad selection followed a rigorous four-day camp held in Karachi, concluding on Saturday, where the team management assessed players’ form and fitness ahead of the mega tournament.

The Women’s Team selectors have introduced several changes from the previous squad that toured England, dropping players such as Ayesha Zafar, Natalia Parvaiz, Rameen Shamim, Sadaf Shamas, Umm-e-Hani, and Waheeda Akhtar. In their place, newcomers Iram Javed, Omaima Sohail, Syeda Aroob Shah, and Tasmia Rubab have been included in the lineup.

The 15-member squad includes Aliya Riaz, Diana Baig, Fatima Sana, Gull Feroza, Iram Javed, Muneeba Ali, Najiha Alvi, Nashra Sundhu, Omaima Sohail, Sadia Iqbal, Sidra Amin, Syeda Aroob Shah, Tasmia Rubab, and Tuba Hassan, as announced by the PCB in a press release.

According to the PCB statement, a training camp specifically for the Women’s T20 Asia Cup will start in Karachi on July 5 and will run until the team’s departure on July 16.

Pakistan has been placed in Group ‘A’ alongside traditional rival India, Nepal, and UAE. Group ‘B’ comprises Sri Lanka, Bangladesh, Thailand, and Malaysia. The top two teams from each group will advance to the semi-finals scheduled for July 26.

The tournament will kick off with a clash between Pakistan and arch-rival India on July 19. Pakistan’s subsequent matches in the group stage are scheduled against Nepal on July 21 and UAE on July 23.
