Pakistan Army Chief Calls on UN to Play Active Role in Resolving Kashmir Issue

ISLAMABAD: Pakistan’s Army Chief, General Syed Asim Munir, has called upon the United Nations (UN) Security Council and Secretary-General to actively engage in the resolution of the longstanding Kashmir issue.

Chief of Army Staff (COAS) General Syed Asim Munir emphasized Pakistan’s unwavering commitment to peace in the region during a meeting focused on preparations for the United Nations Peacekeeping Mission ministerial summit.

The meeting, co-hosted by Pakistan and Japan, featured the participation of delegates from various countries, senior UN officials, and members of the diplomatic community in Islamabad. General Syed Asim Munir attended the concluding session of the event as a special guest.

In his remarks, the COAS underscored the mounting challenges and threats faced by peacekeeping forces, lauding the commendable role played by the United Nations in upholding global peace. He emphasized the significance of empowering the United Nations Peacekeeping Mission to effectively safeguard its personnel and confront multifaceted threats while ensuring overall security.

Army Chief Reiterates Pakistan’s Strong Commitment to Peace

The Army Chief expressed Pakistan’s strong commitment to fostering a peaceful and prosperous region where trade, transit, and investment benefit all states in South, West, and Central Asia. He urged for a peaceful resolution to the Kashmir issue, in accordance with UN Security Council resolutions and the genuine aspirations of the Kashmiri people.

The Under-Secretary-General of the Department of Peace Operations expressed gratitude to Pakistan for hosting the conference and acknowledged its invaluable contributions to global peacekeeping efforts.

Pakistan’s Foreign Minister Jalil Abbas Jilani reiterated Pakistan’s enduring dedication to peace initiatives, highlighting the sacrifices made by brave individuals, including 171 Pakistanis, who laid down their lives in the pursuit of peace. Minister Jilani also emphasized the critical importance of ensuring a secure environment for UN peacekeepers who tirelessly serve in the cause of global peace and security.
