KARACHI: Pakistan’s Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) on Friday arrested a senior official of the National Database and Registration Authority (NADRA for allegedly issuing Pakistani identity cards to Afghan nationals.
According to FIA spokesperson, assistant director of NADRA Nadeem Ali was arrested by the investigating agency’s Anti-Human Trafficking Circle in Karachi.
According to an FIA spokesperson, Ali, who was stationed at NADRA’s Hospital Chowrangi office in Karachi, is accused of working with colleagues to illegally issue these identity cards. While Ali has been taken into custody, the FIA is continuing its efforts to apprehend other individuals involved in the scheme.
FIA sources have reported that the investigation is nearing completion, with the identification of additional NADRA officials implicated in the wrongdoing already underway.
