KAMPALA: Pakistan on Tuesday asked developed nations to fulfill their historical commitments and assist the Global South in achieving the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
Ambassador Syed Haider Shah, the Additional Foreign Secretary (United Nations), delivered Pakistan’s national statement at the Third South Summit of the Group of 77 & China in Kampala, Uganda.
Ambassador Shah emphasized the importance of increased international cooperation, particularly among Global South countries, to advance sustainable development and attain the SDGs and agreed-upon climate goals. He supported the UN Secretary-General’s appeal for adequate financial resources for the recently activated Loss and Damage fund.
Additionally, Ambassador Syed Haider Shah stressed the necessity for the G-77 and China to collaborate towards a more just and equitable international order. He called for reforms in the global financial architecture to make it more representative and responsive to the needs and priorities of developing nations.
The additional foreign secretary underscored the importance of unity and solidarity among developing countries in effectively addressing shared contemporary challenges to global peace and development.
