ISLAMABAD: Pakistan has started the construction of Chashma Nuclear Power Plant Unit-5 (C-5), which would generate 1,200 megawatts of electricity, the country’s Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif said on Monday.
Radio Pakistan reported that Shehbaz Sharif has congratulated the Pakistan Atomic Energy Commission and China National Nuclear Corporation on the commencement of construction work on the Plant.
In a post on social media platform X, the premier said that the construction of the most modern and the biggest, C-5 Nuclear Power Plant is another milestone in strategic cooperation between Islamabad and Beijing.

The national grid
Shehbaz Sharif said the plant will produce 1200 megawatts of electricity to the national grid.
Earlier, Radio Pakistan reported that the Pakistan Atomic Energy Commission has formally started the construction of Chashma Nuclear Power Plant Unit-5 (C-5), in Mianwali.
Pak-China friendship
Speaking at the ceremony, Pakistan’s Minister for Planning and Development Ahsan Iqbal said C-5 Project bears testimony to Pak-China friendship which will create thousands of jobs for the people of Pakistan and will also provide clean electricity to the national grid at cheap rates.
He added it is the need of the hour that Pakistan should strive to become a techno-economy.
Socio-economic development
Addition of C-5, which will be the largest and most advanced Nuclear Power Plant in the country will add another 1200 MW of clean and economical energy in the national grid increasing nuclear energy to 4760 MW and boost socio-economic development, according to Radio Pakistan.
The event was also attended by Chinese Ambassador Jiang Zaidong and other Chinese and Pakistani dignitaries.
