Pakistan Braces for Rainfall in Last Week of Ramadan

ISLAMABAD: Pakistan’s Meteorological Department has forecast rainfall, strong winds, and thunderstorms from 25 to 27 March in various parts of the country during the last week of the holy month of Ramadan.

Met Office predicted that a strong westerly wave is likely to enter western or upper parts of Pakistan on 24th March and affect upper and central parts from Tuesday to Thursday.

Under the influence of this weather system, rain, wind, and thunderstorms with snowfalls over the hills are expected in different of Gilgit-Baltistan, and Kashmir from 25th to 28th March.

Rainfall with snow over high mountains is expected in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa from 25th to 27th March with gaps while an Isolated hailstorm is also expected during the period.

Rainfall with few hailstorms is likely in Islamabad and districts of Punjab from 25th to 27th March, while in southern Punjab districts on 25th and 26th March.

Rainfall is also expected in different parts of Balochistan on 25th and 26th March while wind/dust storm is expected at isolated places in upper parts of Sindh on 25th and 26th March.

The met office has warned that the heavy rainfall may generate flash floods in Chitral, Dir, and Swat, on the 26th & 27th of March.

In January the PMD issued an alert about emerging drought conditions in the country after scarce rainfall.

Met Office stated that drought conditions emerging in the country as Pakistan received below normal rainfall (-40%) from 1st September 2024 to 15th Jan 2025 period across the country.

Sindh province received 52% lesser rainfall during the period, the PMD said in its report about drought conditions.

According to the PMD, Balochistan received 45% less rainfall, while Punjab saw a 42% reduction compared to normal levels.
