Pakistan, China Conclude Arms Control and Non-Proliferation Talks: FO

ISLAMABAD: Pakistan and China reviewed a wide range of connected issues, as well as the regional and global security situation, at the 8th round of the two-day Pakistan-China Bilateral Consultations on arms control and non-proliferation held in Beijing, Pakistan’s Foreign Office said.

The Foreign Office Spokesperson said in a press release on Wednesday that Mohammad Kamran Akhtar, Additional Secretary (Arms Control & Disarmament/Policy Planning) from Pakistan, and Sun Xiaobo, Director General, Department of Arms Control, Ministry of Foreign Affairs of China, led their respective delegations.

The delegation from Pakistan also paid visits to important think tanks in Beijing, including the Chinese Institute of Contemporary International Relations (CICR) and the Arms Control and Disarmament Association (CACDA) of China.

During the visits, it was decided to strengthen the strategic outreach between the think tanks and research institutions of the two countries.

Pakistan, China to Hold Next Meeting in 2024

The consultations concluded with an agreement to convene the 9th round of talks next year on a date mutually agreed upon.

Prior to the talks, Additional Secretary Mohammad Kamran Akhtar also spoke with Vice Foreign Minister Sun Weidong of the People’s Republic of China.

They engaged in an in-depth discussion of China-Pakistan relations, the global and regional security environment, and a number of topics of shared interest during the meeting.
