Pakistan, China, Ink MoU to Leverage Space Technology for SDGs

BEIJING: A Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) was inked between International Research Center of Big Data for Sustainable Development Goals (CBAS), China and Space & Upper Atmosphere Research Commission (SUPARCO), Pakistan recently to cooperate on utilizing space and big data technologies for natural resource management and the valuation of regional sustainable development goals (SDGs), according to media reports.

APP reported that it is learned that the collaboration is set to advance China-Pakistan joint research steps and leverage data from the Sustainable Development Science Satellite 1 (SDGSAT-1), which also supports the attainment of the SDGs and fosters a data-driven approach to sustainable development. According to APP, the aim of this partnership is to enhance data sharing, technological exchange, as well as joint research efforts.

Professor Guo Huadong, DG of CBAS, has highlighted the essential role of big data and technological innovation in tackling the issues identified in the UN 2030 Agenda. By enhancing data collection, sharing, analysis, and by utilizing advanced technologies such as big data and artificial intelligence (AI), we can conduct comprehensive analyzes of data related to the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), he said.
