RAWALPINDI: General Li Qiaoming, Commander Peoples Liberation Army (PLA) and Lieutenant General Muhammad Avais Dastgir, Chief of General Staff (CJS) of Pakistan Army have discussed the evolving global and regional situation, the military’s media wing said on Monday.
The Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR), in a statement, said that during a meeting at the PLA Headquarters, in Beijing on 11 November, the two sides also reviewed measures to enhance bilateral military-to-military cooperation.
It said the CGS offered heartfelt condolences on the loss of Chinese lives in a recent terrorist attack in Karachi and affirmed Pakistan’s unwavering commitment to ensure enhanced security of Chinese nationals in Pakistan.
The ISPR further said the dignitary from China acknowledged the Pakistan Army’s efforts and measures for improving the security of the Chinese and assured wholehearted support to Pakistan.
It said both sides agreed to further enhance mutual cooperation to counter common enemies working against the peace and development of the region.
“Other areas of defence cooperation were also deliberated and both sides reviewed progress of collaboration in areas of military education, training, equipment and technology,” ISPR said.
It added both sides agreed to further institutionalise mechanisms for mutual sharing of experiences, and enhancing regular interactions.
Chinese Foreign Ministry Spokesperson on Monday said that China and Pakistan have the resolve and capability to foil any attempt to sabotage friendly ties between the two countries, and vowed that the terrorists will pay the price.
The spokesperson, in a statement, said that China will continue supporting Pakistan’s counterterrorism effort and socioeconomic development. “We remain committed to cooperation to deliver more benefit for both peoples,” the spokesperson reaffirmed.
Earlier, Pakistan’s Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi, during a meeting with Chinese Ambassador Jiang Zaidong, pledged to enhance security for Chinese nationals in Pakistan.
