Pakistan Communications Minister Proposes Anti-Dozing Devices for Drivers

ISLAMABAD: Shahid Ashraf Tarar, the Caretaker Federal Minister for Communications, visited the headquarters of the National Highway and Motorway Police (NHMP) in Islamabad.

During his visit, he was briefed about NHMP’s working strategy and the challenges it faces. The Minister promised to provide the NHMP with the utmost assistance and cooperation to help overcome challenges and maintain operational potential. Senior officers, including IG NHMP Sultan Ali Khowaja, Addl. IG, DIG (HQs), and others, were present on this occasion.

Shahid Ashraf Tarar commended the performance of the National Highways and Motorway Police, stating, “It is my sincere hope that this force not only maintains its level of efficiency but also sustains international standards of traffic management.” To enhance the department’s reputation, he advised officers to work diligently. He also mentioned a significant decrease in traffic accidents.

Pakistan Motorway Police Shortage

Furthermore, he suggested making anti-dozing devices mandatory for drivers of public service vehicles. He recommended an increase in traffic violation fines, initially focusing on private automobiles. Addressing the Motorway Police’s workforce shortfall on an emergency basis was emphasized due to the strong willingness to do so.

He continued by highlighting the need for driver’s licensing offices to be established in major cities for the benefit of the populace. The primary objective is to utilize every available tool to save lives in traffic accidents.
