ISLAMABAD: Pakistan has strongly denounced the recent attack on the Consular Section of the Iranian Embassy in Damascus, capital of Syria.

Foreign Office in a statement on Monday offered deepest condolences to the families of the victims and the people and the Iranian government.

The statement said the attack is an unacceptable violation of the sovereignty of Syria and undermines its security and stability.

It further said that the attack is a violation of international law and the UN Charter. It noted that attacks against diplomatic facilities or diplomats are also illegal under the Vienna Convention on Diplomatic Relations of 1961.

The statement added the irresponsible act of the Israeli forces is a major escalation in an already volatile region.

“We call on the UN Security Council to prevent Israel from its adventurism in the region and its illegal acts attacking its neighbours and targeting foreign diplomatic facilities,” said the statement.

Meanwhile Iran on Monday called on the world community to act after Israel attacked on an Iranian consulate in Damascus killing a senior Guards commander and others.

Iran has vowed a decisive response to the attack which killed at least five people including three military men.
