ISLAMABAD: The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has decided to appoint former pace sensation Umar Gul as the new bowling coach. Local media citing sources close to the board reported that an official notification would be issued shortly, formalizing Gul’s role as the bowling coach for the Pakistan Men’s team.

This decision comes in the wake of Morne Morkel’s resignation from the position of bowling coach. The former South African fast bowler, who took on the coaching role on a six-month contract in June, recently stepped down, leaving a void that Umar Gul is set to fill. Morkel’s tenure began with the team’s tour to Sri Lanka for a two-match Test series.

Umar Gul’s Eligibility for Bowling Coach Position

Umar Gul, a veteran of Pakistan cricket, brings a wealth of experience and knowledge to the coaching setup. Known for his lethal pace and ability to swing the ball both ways, Gul enjoyed a successful international career, representing Pakistan in all three formats of the game. His expertise is expected to play a crucial role in refining the skills of the current crop of fast bowlers in the national squad.

The timing of Gul’s appointment aligns with the upcoming challenges that await the Pakistan team, with a three-match Test series against Australia on the horizon. The series is scheduled to take place from December 14, 2023, to January 7, 2024, in Australia.
