QUETTA: Pakistan has decided to intensify its anti-terrorism operations after a deadly suicide bombing at a railway station in Balochistan’s capital, Quetta, on Saturday that killed at least 26 people.
Addressing the media in Quetta, Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi, accompanied by Balochistan’s Chief Minister Sarfraz Bugti, announced that the government would intensify its crackdown on terrorism across the country. “We will not stop until these terrorists are wiped out,” Naqvi said.
As part of the increased anti-terror measures, Naqvi said the federal government would equip security forces with modern weapons and technology to help them chase down terrorists.
He added that intelligence coordination and surveillance operations would be enhanced to prevent such attacks in the future.
“We are working together in this fight against terrorism. The federal government is providing all the support needed to ensure the terrorists are brought to justice, and we will not rest until peace is restored,” Naqvi said.
Prime Minister Shahbaz Sharif has ordered a thorough investigation into the security lapses that allowed the bombing to take place. Naqvi confirmed that security agencies had recently arrested several suicide bombers.
“Terrorism is not confined to one province; it is a national issue that requires a unified approach,” Naqvi said. “We must fight this together, as a nation,” he added.
Balochistan Chief Minister Sarfraz Bugti reiterated his government’s unwavering commitment to fighting terrorism.
“We will not rest until we eliminate these terrorists and establish lasting peace in Balochistan,” Bugti vowed.

He also assured the public that the authorities had successfully identified and tracked down many of the terrorists responsible for the violence in the province. The mastermind behind the railway station bombing in Quetta would also be apprehended and brought to justice, he said.
“Terrorists who target innocent people will not be shown any mercy,” Bugti emphasised. “We will hunt them down and ensure they face the full force of the law.”
Naqvi said that the federal government would provide all possible support to the Balochistan government in its efforts to restore peace. “The Federation stands firmly behind the people of Balochistan. We will support every step taken by the provincial government to end terrorism,” he said.
