Pakistan Declares Desecration of Holy Quran, Religious Figures Unacceptable

ISLAMABAD: Pakistan’s caretaker Minister for Religious Affairs and Interfaith Harmony Aneeq Ahmed has reiterated the government’s stance on religious hatred and hate speech, stressing that the desecration of the Holy Quran and religious figures was completely unacceptable.

In a meeting with the Ruet-e-Hilal Committee former Chairman Mufti Muneeb-ur-Rehman, the minister announced proactive steps to curb blasphemous content on social media platforms.

He also highlighted the seriousness of attacks on religious scholars, saying that investigation had led authorities closer to identifying the perpetrators, whose names would soon be revealed to the public.

He underscored the ongoing efforts to address the country’s issues, expressing gratitude for the support and cooperation of religious scholars.

The minister encouraged religious scholars to keep the public optimistic, stressing the government’s responsibility to end their concerns.

Rising Inflation in Pakistan

Talking about rising inflation, he acknowledged its impact but assured that progress was being made, saying the direction is right and the government is moving forward.

Moreover, he discussed the need to amend laws governing social media to prevent the spread of hate and blasphemy. He said that proposals for stricter social media regulation had been suggested.

On the occasion, Mufti Muneeb-ur Rehman said the blasphemy law had been approved by the Parliament and awaiting for the President’s signature.

He emphasized the significance of the law’s enactment, similar to the Official Secrets Act, which became law without the President’s signature.
