ISLAMABAD: Pakistan said Wednesday the assassination of Hamas political leader Ismail Haniyeh in Iran was a “reckless act”, describing his killing in attack as “terrorism”.

Pakistan’s state-run news agency (APP) cited Foreign Office Spokesperson as saying that Islamabad denounced the assassination of the chief of Hamas Political Bureau Ismail Haniyeh in Tehran, expressing deep concern over the increasing Israeli adventurism in the region.

According to a Foreign Office press release, “We are deeply shocked by the timing of this reckless act, coinciding with the inauguration of Iranian President, an event attended by several foreign dignitaries, including the Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister of Pakistan,”.

Extending deep condolences to his family and the people of Palestine, the Foreign Office spokesperson reiterated that Islamabad denounced terrorism in all its shapes and manifestations including extraterritorial and extrajudicial killings, irrespective of the motives.

“Pakistan views with serious concern the increasing Israeli adventurism in the region. Its latest actions constitute a dangerous escalation in an already volatile region and also undermine efforts for peace,” the spokesperson further said.  Earlier, many countries including Russia, China, Turkey, and Qatar expressed their reaction after the assassination of Hamas political leader Ismail Haniyeh in Theran.
