Pakistan, Dutch PMs Discuss Bilateral Relations

DUBAI: Pakistan’s Caretaker Prime Minister Anwaar-ul-Haq Kakar called on his Dutch counterpart Mark Rutte on the sidelines of COP-28 in Dubai on Friday. Earlier they had met in New York, USA on the sideline of the UN General Assembly Session.

During their meeting, they discussed bilateral relations, exchanging perspectives on international and regional matters, with a particular focus on the situation in Afghanistan.

They also addressed the evolving human rights and humanitarian conditions in Gaza. Both leaders commended the celebrations in Islamabad and The Hague, commemorating 75 years of diplomatic relations established this year.

The Caretaker Prime Minister emphasized the importance of collaboration between Pakistan and the Netherlands, suggesting bilateral and European Union avenues for joint efforts on shared concerns. He extended an invitation to Dutch companies to invest in Pakistan, particularly in areas such as agriculture, horticulture, water management, and renewable energy.

Expressing contentment with the positive trajectory in bilateral relations, both leaders acknowledged the significance of concrete outcomes in climate action. Prime Minister Kakar underscored Pakistan’s vulnerability to climate change despite being among the lowest carbon emitters.

At the end of the meeting, PM Kakar invited the Dutch Prime Minister to visit Pakistan.
