ISLAMABAD: Acting in compliance with the Supreme Court of Pakistan’s order issued earlier, the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) on Friday night issued the election schedule for the upcoming February 8 polls in the country, a notification said.
Earlier, Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) Sikandar Sultan Raja had confirmed that the election schedule would be announced tonight. The SC had hours earlier ordered the ECP to announce the election schedule by tonight after it suspended a Lahore High Court order.
Election Schedule Issued for 2024 General Elections
In a notification, available with WENEWS, the Election Commission of Pakistan said the public notice would be issued by the RO on December 19 with the dates for filing nominations with the RO from December 20-22.
The ECP stated the names of the nominated candidates would be published on December 23 and the last date for scrutiny of their nomination papers would be from December 24 to 30.
During an informal interaction with reporters today in Islamabad, the Chief Election Commissioner termed the apex court’s decision as in the wider national interest. He said that the Election Commission of Pakistan was completely prepared for polls.
