ISLAMABAD: Pakistan’s Ambassador to China, Khalil Hashmi, highlighted the Great Wall’s symbolic importance in China’s cultural heritage, representing resilience and strength.
He recalled Pakistan’s contribution to the Wall’s restoration in 1989 as a testament to their enduring friendship. Speaking at the exhibition marking the 40th anniversary of “Love Our China, Repair the Great Wall” at the Badaling section near Beijing, Hashmi drew parallels between the Great Wall and Pakistan’s ancient city of Taxila, emphasizing shared historical and cultural ties.
He affirmed that Pakistan and China share a unique friendship grounded in mutual respect, trust, and a commitment to collective growth. Hashmi likened their relationship to the Great Wall—strong, unbreakable, stable, and enduring—and expressed a desire to expand collaboration across various fields, including trade, infrastructure, and cultural exchange.

The event was attended by Chinese scholars and leaders, including Bian Jinping, who discussed the Wall’s significance as a symbol of international resilience and creativity while appreciating Pakistan’s role in its preservation.
