ISLAMABAD: The Capital Development Authority (CDA) has set up a Climate Change Fund, the first of its kind in Islamabad with an objective of mitigating the negative impacts of climate change in the Islamabad Capital Territory (ICT).
This initiative, proposed by Minister for Interior Mohsin Naqvi, marks a major step towards addressing environmental concerns in the region.
Interior Minister Naqvi commending the initiative, praised CDA Chairman Muhammad Ali Randhawa and his team for their proactive approach to mitigate adverse impacts of the climate.
The CDA, as part of the Climate Change Initiative, is starting a “Carbon Credit Program” under which 4 to 5 million trees across 2000-10,000 kanals in the city will be planted.
Chairman Randhawa said that new sectors, avenues, and other open spaces have been selected for this extensive tree plantation program.
In addition to the fund, the CDA has also approved the “Margalla Hills Fund,” under which 1.5 percent of revenue collected from recreational spots in Margalla Hills will be allocated towards their beautification and protection.
This initiative aims to preserve the natural beauty and ecological balance of Islamabad. With these steps, Islamabad sets an excellent example in climate action, promising a greener and more sustainable future for the residents of the capital city.
