ISLAMABAD: The Pakistan Space and Upper Atmosphere Research Commission (SUPARCO) inaugurated the Space Applications and Research Centre (SPARC-GB) in Gilgit-Baltistan on Wednesday.
The event, attended by Chief Minister Gulbar Khan, marks a significant milestone in the country’s journey toward space and environmental research.
The new centre will enable SUPARCO to monitor climate change and glacier melting while addressing various environmental and socio-economic challenges. It aims to enhance environmental vigilance by providing vital data on glacier conditions and landslide occurrences.
Additionally, SPARC-GB will collaborate with international research organizations focused on disaster management and conservation efforts. The centre also plans to support local communities through employment and capacity-building initiatives.
Chief Minister Haji Gulbar Khan highlighted the opening of the SUPARCO centre as a major achievement for the region and stressed the universal importance of technology and its benefits.
