Pakistan, Ethiopia Discuss Joint Efforts in Counter Terrorism

ISLAMABAD: Ethiopia Ambassador to Pakistan Jemal Beker Abdula met with Pakistan’s Caretaker Interior Minister Sarfraz Bugti to discuss avenues of bilateral cooperation. During the meeting, both sides discussed various aspects of mutual interest, spanning bilateral, regional, and multilateral collaboration, particularly in areas such as security, counter-terrorism, and immigration.

Ambassador Jemal Beker Abdula provided insights into the structural similarities between Ethiopia and Pakistan, highlighting common challenges faced by both nations. Emphasizing the need for knowledge and experience exchange, he called for joint efforts to combat terrorism, illicit trade, and smuggling.

Ambassador Abdula elaborated on Ethiopia’s ongoing counter-terrorism initiatives in the Horn of Africa, expressing Ethiopia’s eagerness to collaborate with Pakistan in ensuring peace and stability in the region.

Additionally, the ambassador briefed Minister Sarfraz Bugti on Ethiopia’s economic progress under the leadership of Prime Minister Dr. Abiy Ahmed. In response, the caretaker minister commended Ethiopia’s economic achievements through transformative reforms.

Minister Bugti underscored Pakistan’s commitment to strengthening ties with Africa, recognizing Ethiopia’s pivotal role in connecting Pakistan with the African continent. He affirmed Pakistan’s readiness to share knowledge and experiences, particularly in counter-terrorism efforts.

The minister also lauded Ethiopia’s global contributions to peace and security, highlighting the nation’s positive impact not only in the region but also on a global scale.
