Pakistan, EU Renew Commitment to Strengthen Cooperation in Various Fields

ISLAMABAD: Pakistan and the European Union (EU) have reaffirmed their determination to enhance cooperation across multiple sectors, including the GSP Plus status.

This commitment was reiterated during a meeting between Pakistan’s Foreign Minister Bilawal Bhutto Zardari and EU Ambassador in Pakistan Dr. Riina Kionka.

In addition to discussing regional and global issues, the two sides engaged in fruitful deliberations on Pakistan-EU bilateral ties and matters of mutual interest.

Foreign Minister Bilawal expressed optimism that the ongoing cooperation in the economic sector, particularly regarding the Generalized System of Preferences (GSP) Plus, would continue to yield significant benefits for both Pakistan and the EU.

The GSP Plus program grants preferential trade access to Pakistan in the European market, providing opportunities for increased exports and economic growth.

Bilawal highlighted the positive impact of this arrangement on Pakistan’s economy and acknowledged the EU’s role as an important trade and investment partner.

Bilateral relations between EU and Pakistan

Both sides expressed satisfaction with the steady progress in bilateral relations between Pakistan and the European Union. They underscored the importance of nurturing and expanding cooperation in diverse areas, such as trade, investment, education, science and technology, climate change, and counterterrorism.

The EU ambassador recognized Pakistan’s efforts in implementing the GSP Plus commitments and emphasized the need for continued collaboration to harness the full potential of the trade agreement. Dr. Riina Kionka reaffirmed the EU’s commitment to further deepening ties with Pakistan and exploring avenues for closer cooperation.
