ISLAMABAD: Pakistan extended heartfelt condolences to Afghanistan for the loss of precious lives and livelihoods caused by heavy rains and flash flooding.
In a statement released by the Foreign Office on Tuesday, the government and people of Pakistan expressed deep sympathies for the affected families.
“We offer our deepest sympathies and condolences for the loss of lives and livelihoods, as well as the damage to properties in several provinces of Afghanistan,” the statement read.
“Our thoughts are with the bereaved families, and we pray for the Almighty to grant them patience and fortitude during this difficult time. We also extend our wishes for a swift recovery to the injured,” it added.
It is pertinent to mention here that heavy rainfall in Afghanistan has led to devastating flash floods, claiming the lives of at least 66 people and causing widespread damage to homes, infrastructure, and farmlands in various parts of the country, authorities reported on Tuesday.
The storms, which started over the weekend, are exacerbating the challenges confronting Afghanistan, a nation still grappling with the aftermath of decades of conflict and a series of natural disasters, including severe droughts in recent years and deadly earthquakes.
“According to initial reports from the provinces, at least 66 people have lost their lives, with 36 others sustaining injuries,” stated Janan Sayeq, spokesperson for the National Disaster Management Authority.
