ABU DHABI: Pakistan’s ambassador to the United Arab Emirates (UAE) has stressed the need to unlock the vast untapped trade potential between Pakistan and Bangladesh, highlighting its potential to drive economic growth for both nations.

Ambassador Faisal Niaz Tirmizi made the remarks during a meeting with Tareq Ahmed, the newly appointed ambassador of Bangladesh to the UAE, at the Pakistan House in Abu Dhabi on Thursday, according to a statement issued by Pakistan’s embassy.

During the meeting, matters of mutual interest including cooperation in trade and investment, efforts to increase people-to-people contact and resumption of direct flights from Islamabad and Karachi to Dhaka, were discussed.

Both sides underscored the importance of supporting the welfare of the large Pakistani and Bangladeshi diaspora in the UAE.

Ambassador Tirmizi highlighted the deep historical and cultural relations between Pakistan and Bangladesh.

Ambassador Tareq reaffirmed Bangladesh’s commitment to strengthening relations with Pakistan. He stressed the need for continued dialogue and cooperation to address shared challenges and achieve common objectives in the region.

“The meeting concluded on a positive note, with both ambassadors affirming their shared vision for regional peace, prosperity, and enhanced bilateral engagement,” the statement said.

On Tuesday Trading Corporation of Pakistan (TCP) and the Directorate General of Food, Bangladesh signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) for the export of rice from Pakistan to Bangladesh.

It may be noted that the Pakistan Federation of Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FPCCI) and Federation of Bangladesh Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FBCCI) on Monday laid the foundation of a joint commerce venture, Pakistan-Bangladesh Joint Business Council.

It is pertinent to mention that the Bangladesh military delegation has just visited Pakistan. Pakistan Foreign Office spokesperson Shafqat Ali Khan at his weekly news briefing on Thursday called Bangladesh an important partner for Pakistan.

He expressed a desire for strong, dynamic, and positive relations between the two countries. He said the exchange of military delegations and collaboration in defence is a routine aspect of the broader bilateral engagement between the nations.
