Pakistan Eyes World Cup Success as U19 Women’s Cricket Team Lands in Malaysia

ISLAMABAD: The Pakistan U19 Women’s cricket team has arrived in Malaysia to participate in the ICC U19 Women’s T20 World Cup, scheduled from January 18 to February 2.

According to the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB), Komal Khan will lead the team during the mega event in Malaysia.

Speaking to the media, Komal Khan expressed hope that the team would perform well in the World Cup. She added that every player would strive to give their best and deliver 100 percent results. Komal also highlighted the tremendous effort the team had put into their training sessions.

The ICC Under 19 Women’s T20 World Cup is all set to kick off in Malaysia on 18 January 2025, according to ICC.

The ICC said that sixteen nations are set to participate in the event, with the teams divided into four groups. Pakistan have been included in group B alongside England, Ireland, and the USA.

Pakistan will play its opening match against the USA on January 18.

The Groups

Group A: India, Malaysia, Sri Lanka, West Indies

Group B: England, Ireland, Pakistan, USA

Group C: New Zealand, Nigeria, Samoa, South Africa

Group D: Australia, Bangladesh, Nepal, Scotland

Format 

Sixteen teams will be divided into four groups of four, with each side playing once against every other team in their group.

The top three teams from each group will advance to the Super Six League stage, the ICC said. Teams progressing from Group A will face two qualifying teams from Group D, while teams from Group B will compete against two qualifiers from Group C, according to ICC.

Points earned in matches against other qualifying teams during the group stage will carry over to the Super Six League stage.

The top two sides from each Super Six League will move on to the semi-finals, with the final scheduled for February 2, 2025.

The first edition of the tournament took place in 2023 with South Africa playing hosts.
