ISLAMABAD: Pakistan’s Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) has summoned Shahid Haider, the Chief of Lahore Electric Supply Company (LESCO), along with other officials for an investigation into allegations of overbilling.
The FIA has called in the director of customer services, director of IT at LESCO, and officials from the energy ministry today to probe the issue of inflated electricity bills.
Sources indicate that the FIA is required to submit its findings on the overbilling investigation to the Prime Minister within 24 hours.
Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, on July 6, instructed the FIA to launch an inquiry against officials of power distribution companies involved in billing consumers for excessive electricity units. He chaired a meeting on Power Sector reforms and Solarisation, directing the immediate suspension of implicated officials.
The Prime Minister emphasized the need to penalize those responsible for manipulating electricity bills with extra units, describing their actions as detrimental to the public interest.
He further demanded transparency in exposing individuals involved in overcharging electricity bills for consumers using less than 200 units per month.
