Pakistan Focuses on Economic Growth Through Investment, Departmental Reforms: PM Shehbaz

ISLAMABAD: Pakistan’s Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has said that the promotion of foreign investment and creating a conducive business environment for traders and investors, is the government’s first priority, to foster economic growth in the South Asian country.

During a meeting held in PM House in Islamabad, the premier highlighted ongoing efforts to create a business-friendly environment conducive to traders and investors and enhance the operational capacities and efficiency of federal ministries.

The Prime Minister instructed relevant authorities to form a steering committee under his supervision to monitor progress in these crucial areas. This initiative aims to streamline policies effectively to foster economic growth.

The meeting highlighted that the Public Private Partnership Authority has enlisted Kearney, a global consultancy firm with expertise in the Middle East, to aid in these efforts.

Kearney has already engaged with 15 federal institutions, identifying 97 priority projects aimed at sustainable development in collaboration with the Pakistani government.

They also committed to supporting privatization efforts of State-Owned Enterprises (SOEs), improving regulatory frameworks for public sector enterprises, and attracting more investors to Pakistan.

Key participants included Federal Minister for Economic Affairs Division Ahad Khan Cheema, Finance Minister Muhammad Aurangzeb, Planning Minister Ahsan Iqbal, Minister of State for Finance Ali Pervaiz Malik, Deputy Chairman Planning Commission Jehanzeb Khan, PM’s Coordinator Rana Ihsan Afzal, and other senior officials.

This concerted effort underscores the government’s proactive approach to economic revitalization and capacity building across federal ministries, aiming for sustained growth and development in Pakistan.
