RAWALPINDI: Pakistan’s former interior minister and Awami Muslim League (AML) head Sheikh Rashid Ahmed was arrested by police in Rawalpindi in the wee hours of Thursday, local media reported. Sheikh Rashid’s nephew Rashid Shafiq has confirmed the arrest.
Pakistan’s former minister arrested
Local media reported that Rashid Shafiq said that a heavy contingent reached the home of Sheikh Rashid in Rawalpindi and arrested him. He said that the police did not inform his family that in which case the former minister was arrested.
Sheikh Rashid Ahmed said that a leader of PPP had filed a complaint against him for accusing ex-president Asif Ali Zardari of plotting the assassination of former prime minister and PTI chief Imran Khan.
Imran Khan condemned the arrest of Sheikh Rashid and questioned the role of the caretaker government. The former PM tweeted, “Strongly condemn the arrest of Sh Rasheed”.
