BEIJING: CPInS Lab Director Dr Wu Jun has said that Pakistan, through further cooperation with China, is fully capable of becoming an artificial intelligence development hub in South Asia and the wider region.
The CPInS Lab was officially established at Pakistan’s National University of Science and Technology in 2022 with joint efforts with the Guangzhou Institute of Software Application Technology. At present, different research studies are in progress in an orderly manner.
Dr Wu said in an interview that they had made great progress in areas such as AI recognition localization and UAV control systems. The lab is starting the application of smart cities in Pakistan.
He said that through this platform, mature research results could be deeply connected with local projects in the country, providing smart city-related products and intelligent solutions according to local conditions.
He further said that they were able to effectively implement core technologies and products such as smart videos and smart street lights to improve local urban governance ability.
Seemab Latif, Head of the Pakistani side of the lab and Associate Professor at the School of Electrical Engineering and Computer Science at the NUST, said that Sci-tech cooperation is of great significance to Pakistan’s socio-economic development.
Huge Potential of Pakistan’s Scientific, Technological Development
He said that China’s AI industry was leading the world, and Pakistan’s scientific and technological development has huge potential; thus, by deepening bilateral cooperation, it can make great progress in the field of Sci-Tech.
Latif said that the lab was using technology from China to develop smart city projects in Pakistan, such as efficient infrastructure monitoring systems and traffic management systems.
