ISLAMABAD: The federal government of Pakistan has taken measures to address a new cybersecurity threat by instructing all government officials to use secure email channels for official communication, a local news channel reporter.

According to the news channel, a communication has been distributed to all relevant ministries and departments, highlighting the specific risk that certain civil and military officials may face concerning phishing attacks.

The communication offers guidelines for safeguarding official emails, including the avoidance of weak passwords, regular password changes, refraining from sharing email IDs with unrelated individuals, and using personal accounts for official correspondence.

Additionally, officials are cautioned against the use of official email accounts on mobile devices, opening emails with attached links, responding to suspicious emails, or clicking on links. The communication underscores the importance of utilizing licensed anti-virus software.

Phishing attacks encompass deceptive emails, text messages, phone calls, or websites designed to trick users into downloading malware or disclosing sensitive information and personal data.
